SIR – I agree with Simon Heffer that the Conservatives “should take the fight to Labour”.
Above all, however, they need to explain why capitalism works and socialism does not. Mr Heffer’s suggestion that the Tories should expose the faults and divisions within Labour risks encouraging the same old backbiting and mockery.
While the young will always flock to idealism, the Tories are simply sitting back, thinking that when these voters reach a certain age they will change their views. Without a proper explanation of why socialist policies will always fail, that may not happen.
SIR – We still have Labour and its supporters banging on about how well the party did in the summer election.
